The Kathi Hughes Innovative Programming Award for BCAEA

British Columbia Alternate Education Association


The Kathi Hughes Innovative Programming Award is given to an alternate education teacher who is willing to share a unique aspect of his/her existing program at the Annual BCAEA Conference in January.

To encourage alternate education teachers to share their programs and workable strategies with others.


One award of $500


a) The applicant must be a BCAEA member.
b) Outline the program (two-page maximum). Include how your program is meeting the needs and aspirations of your students.
c) Indicate how your program would use the award.
d) Include pictures of program "in action."
e) Submit article for possible publication in the June newsletter.
f) Include proposal for sharing of program at annual BCAEA Challenge and Change Conference (i.e. workshop, booth, or…). BCAEA may provide limited travel subsidy for award recipients presenting at conference.

The program must:
a) have been in operation for at least one year
b) focus on the social/emotional and/or career development of students
c) be shareable and be transferable

Selection Process:

Applications must include an outline of the program (two-page maximum) and include how the program is meeting the needs and aspirations of the students and how the program would use the award. Pictures of the program "in action" must be included.
The presentation of the program and the award will take place at the Annual BCAEA Conference.

Deadline Date:

All applications must be received by March 31.
