The BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) is seeking 24 members to participate as BCTF representatives in the Ministry of Education and Child Care's focus groups for their Digital Resource for K–12 Literacy Supports project.
The Ministry is looking for teachers from all learning areas of the curriculum with current classroom experience to participate in small-scale focus groups of teachers and educational support staff.

Project:
The Ministry of Education and Child Care, in collaboration with BCcampus, will be holding virtual small-scale focus groups of educators and educational support staff hopes to identify the needs of K–12 teachers, specialists, educational support staff, and parents/caregivers in a prospective digital resource that intended to support them in improving the literacy development of all K–12 students, including students with disabilities or diverse abilities.
The intent of the focus groups is to help the Ministry:
- understand whether a digital resource intended to support the literacy development of K–12 students would be beneficial for teachers, educational support staff, and parents/caregivers
- understand the technical and design considerations for a prospective digital resource
- develop recommendations and next steps.
Commitment
Focus groups are expected to be scheduled in late February and March 2025. Participants will be asked to participate in one virtual engagement session on either a weeknight or weekend, for approximately two hours.
Compensation
Participating teachers will receive an honorarium of $162.50 from the Ministry of Education and Child Care for their time.
Term of Appointment
Focus group engagements are anticipated to take place during February and March 2025.
Selection criteria
- active BCTF membership status
- awareness of the role and responsibilities of representing the BCTF and the teaching profession
- current classroom experience and/or learning recourses experience
- balance of diversity—gender, Aboriginal, regional representation, etc., will be sought.
