The BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) is seeking 10 public school teacher representatives to participate as BCTF representatives to two Ministry of Education and Child Care committees tasked with selecting graduating student provincial scholarship winners for the 2024–25 school year.
BCTF members selected will represent the BCTF on one of two scholarship committees:

BC Excellence Scholarship Committee
This $5,000 scholarship recognizes 55 high school graduates who demonstrate service and leadership, both at school and in their communities. Recipients also demonstrate a focus on their future career or post-secondary study goals.

BC Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship Committee
This $5,000 scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching.

In addition to public school teachers, the Ministry may appoint educators from independent schools to this project. These team members will not be appointed by the BCTF.
General information
Members selected to work on these two committees will have the following tasks:
- Part A: Evaluate applications (remotely and independently)
- Participants will evaluate applicant resume packages.
- Established criteria and scoring rubrics will be provided.
- Resume packages will be provided through a secure transfer service.
- A basic BCeID will be required.
- Optional committee meet-and-greet will be offered virtually.
- This work needs to be completed in April 2025.
- Part B: Attend adjudication sessions (online, as a committee, and during instructional time)
- BC Excellence: Thursday, May 8, 2025 (full day)
- Pathway to Teacher Education: Friday, May 9, 2025 (full day)
- These sessions will be held virtually as a group.
- Participants will share and discuss their independent scoring, the merits of the applications, and choose recipients by consensus.
Selected candidates must have completed at least once (before April 2025) the free training on the B.C. Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and be prepared to submit their certificate of completion to the Ministry of Education and Child Care (if not already on file). The training takes 60–90 minutes to complete.
Term and remuneration
Committee members will serve under a Letter of Agreement that will confirm conditions and procedures for remuneration from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
- Part A (BC Excellence Committee): invoice for up to two and a half days (17.5 hours) of independent work, to a maximum of $1,000
- Part A (Pathway to Teacher Education Committee): invoice for up to one and a half days (10.5 hours) of independent work, to a maximum of $600
- Part B: invoicing to be determined together with release requirements.
Selection criteria
- active BCTF membership status
- awareness of the role and responsibilities of representing the BCTF and the teaching profession
- the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
- balance of new members and those with previous experience on the Ministry Scholarship committees
- a variety of educators, from classroom teachers to career program teachers and school counsellors
- experience in scholarship adjudication, administration, or counselling
- balance of diversity—gender, Aboriginal, regional representation, etc., will be sought.
