The election campaign period in British Columbia is officially under way. This means BC’s main political parties and leaders are travelling the province, outlining their visions on important issues from housing to health care. While the Federation does not endorse a particular party, we hope to provide members with accurate information and support to engage with the civic process. We know that BC teachers will be voting for their students, schools, and communities. With 50,000 members, both your individual vote and our collective votes matter.
The race to form government is shaping up to be a tight one between the BC NDP and BC Conservatives. But where do they stand on public education? We’ve launched a special website dedicated to answering this question: act.bctf.ca/ITeachIVote/.
This website will be updated regularly as new platform positions are announced and statements by leaders and candidates are made. This is also a place where, as members, you can share issues important to you—whether they relate to public education or other election issues.
Our social media channels (Instagram, X, Facebook) are also a great place to get up-to-date information. Use or follow the hashtags #BCElection2024 and #ITeachIVote for more.
An election is an opportunity to imagine what’s possible. The Federation encourages all members to connect with your local candidates and tell them what’s important to you. Go to town halls and all-candidate meetings, ask tough questions, share your priorities with your friends and family, and most importantly—vote! Your voice matters.
