About This Resource

"This online exhibit examines Captain Vancouver’s expedition to map the Pacific Northwest Coast. You will learn about the challenges Vancouver and his crewed endured and the navigation and sailing ship technology they used to complete their mission. You will also learn from the Mowachaht/Muchalaht and the Heiltsuk First Nations how Vancouver’s map lead to the colonization of their territories and the impact it has on their lives today. The exhibit incorporates lesson plans and learning activities that have been designed with the Grades 4, 8, & 9 Social Studies BC Curriculum in mind. The worksheets are intended for Grade 4 students, while the analysis and project prompts in the lesson plans will deepen learning for Grade 8 and 9 students."
