Seven, 3-year terms, July 1, 2025 to August 31, 2028
The Peer Support Service (PSS) is a team of volunteer members known as PSS consultants who have extensive backgrounds in teaching and are trained as peer coaches.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct one-to-one coaching support, in the classroom, to members who:
- request support with their teaching practice,
- are on a graduated return to work plan,
- have received a less than satisfactory performance evaluation report,
- are on a plan of assistance, or
- are in receipt of a letter of direction.
- Attend two PSS training meetings during the year; each meeting is two days, scheduled on Friday/Saturday. The first meeting will take place in the fall of 2025, and the second meeting will take place in the spring of 2026 (dates to be determined).
- New applicants must be available for a training session that is held on the Thursday before their first meeting in the Fall.
- Consultants may need up to 10 days of release time per year to carry out their responsibilities (meetings and travel to clients). Consultants are typically assigned one to three clients per year.
- To protect privacy and confidentiality, consultants are assigned a BCTF email address to be used for all communications from PSS. They are responsible for regularly checking their BCTF email.
Selection criteria
- active BCTF membership
- minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in BC public schools
- experience in local/BCTF work
- strong organizational, communication, counselling, planning, and problem-solving skills
- knowledge of the revised curriculum
- knowledge in application of Aboriginal ways of knowing and learning
- extensive repertoire of teaching skills and strategies
- experience teaching French and/or Francophone
- ability to travel to provide service to members.

This is a volunteer opportunity to serve and represent the teachers of BC. Accommodation, meals (per diem), leave of absence (LOA), necessary travel costs, and dependent care costs (if required) will be provided in accordance with BCTF policies for all expenses related to PSS business (meetings and casework).
