The BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) is seeking one member to participate as a BCTF representative to the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Online Learning Sector Advisory Committee.
Background/context
The Ministry of Education and Child Cares’ online learning model, which became effective July 1, 2023, was designed to provide equitable access to high quality online learning for all students in BC.
The model includes a provincially supported infrastructure consisting of:
The Online Learning Sector Advisory Committee assists the Ministry of Education and Child Care by providing advice regarding the overall online learning model and supporting its ongoing implementation. Committee members are responsible for reviewing materials and providing advice to enhance all aspects of the online learning model including and not limited to:
- the accountability and quality assurance process
- the Procedures Guide
- resource co-creation
- the Community of Practice.
Commitment
The Online Learning Sector Advisory Committee meets virtually, approximately every six weeks during the school year. Additionally, the selected member will be required to email meeting documents and brief meeting summary notes to the Federation after each meeting. The Ministry will provide leave of absence letters, as required, to attend the meetings.
Term of Appointment
February 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027.
Selection criteria
- active BCTF membership status
- awareness of the role and responsibilities of representing the BCTF and the teaching profession, including the ability to work collaboratively in a co-constructive team environment and meet deadlines
- current Online Learning teacher
- member of BC Educators for Digital Learning (BCEDL)
- demonstrated experience with online learning policy
- balance of diversity—gender, Aboriginal, regional representation, etc., will be sought.
