The BCTF supports the Chicago Teachers’ Union in their negotiations and job actions.
Dear Jesse:
On behalf of the 43,000 members of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), we want to express our solidarity with the Chicago Teachers' Union (CTU) as you fight for smaller class sizes, fully staffed schools, much needed salary increases, pay equity for paraprofessionals, and justice for students and families.
The CTU has once again shown its steadfast unwavering commitment to serving the students and families of Chicago by linking their struggle for education justice to a larger social justice struggle for the city that Chicago's students and families deserve.
We at the BCTF feel a particular bond of solidarity with the CTU as partners in the Tri-national Coalition in Defense of Public Education.
Here in British Columbia we are fighting for many of the same issues you are in Chicago. The neoliberal assault on public education is global and so is our solidarity. We wish you success in your negotiations and actions.
In solidarity,
Teri Mooring
