Getting started:

Analyze what you or your group has to gain by forming a coalition.

Bring interested groups together. Describe the issue and clarify who you or your group is and what your stake is in initiating the first meeting.

Ask for suggestions of who else to contact.

Be inclusive and share the responsibility of organizing the initial meeting as much as possible.

Be enthusiastic about the benefits of working together.

In preparing for the first meeting, be careful not to go too far down the road of organizing for the group.

Be open to ideas and queries. (Don’t get defensive or controlling).
