Other provinces increased support for students (FTE educators) during enrolment decline
Our government repeatedly justifies underfunding by claiming to provide the highest funding ever for public education. Enrolment decline is not a justification for underfunding public schools.
Statistics Canada data shows that all provinces experienced declining enrolment between 2005–06 and 2009–10 except Alberta. Yet, during the same period, most other provinces hired more educators to support students. The number of FTE educators in Canada increased by 5% between 2005–06 and 2009–10, yet in BC, FTE educators decreased by 2%.
