It’s everyone’s responsibility to take action against homophobia. Here’s how you can contribute to making schools safer and more welcoming for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and teachers.

President and Vice-president
Speak out for policy change in your district. Make a presentation to school trustees on the need for a distinct LGBTQ policy.

Professional Development Chair
Book a BCTF antihomophobia workshop.

Local Representative
Lobby for continued social justice funding at the Representative Assembly.

Social Justice Contact
Distribute and promote BCTF antihomophobia materials to all schools.

Bargaining Chair
Speak out for specific contract language that protects LGBTQ colleagues from harassment and/or discrimination.

Health and Safety Contact
Ensure district policies include a requirement that all homophobic incidents be reported to the district and action taken.
