On Saturday, March 16, 2019, more than 700 teachers from across BC will gather at the Victoria Conference Centre for the start of the BC Teachers' Federation's Annual General Meeting. 

BCTF presidents only serve three one-year terms, and Glen Hansman's final term will be coming to an end on June 30,, 2019. The new president will be elected on the morning of Tuesday March 19, 2019. That person will take over as president on July 1, 2019. 

Key events for media at the AGM

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, current BCTF President Glen Hansman will deliver his opening report at approximately 7:15 p.m.

On Monday, March 18, 2019, the meeting will discuss and debate recommendations related to the provincial government's education funding model review at 2:00 p.m. Teachers are increasingly concerned about proposed changes to how students with special needs are funded.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, elections for the Executive Committee will begin at 9:00 a.m. The President-elect will be announced between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. That will be followed by an opportunity for media to scrum the President-elect in the foyer of the Victoria Conference Centre.

The President-elect will be available for interviews in Victoria until Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. They will then be available for bookings in Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon and all day on Thursday, March 21, 2019.

Media are invited to attend at any time except when the meeting goes “in-committee.” As this is a bargaining year, it is expected that some sessions will indeed be in-committee.
