Effective lobby techniques

Here are some ideas to help you make the most of your lobbying visit with your MLA.

The key to successful lobbying is getting as much information as you can from your MLA while presenting your case. Avoid arguing. Instead, try to find a balance between telling and asking.

Some questions that you might like to use are:

Are you familiar with________________?

What do you think should be done about ________________?

Have you heard from constituents about________________?

Has the government/opposition caucus had an opportunity to discuss this issue?

What information on this issue would you find useful?

What is the government/opposition caucus position on________________?

What do you think is the biggest obstacle to resolving this issue?

If you are asked a question you don't know the answer to, commit to finding out the information and getting back to the minister.
